5 wines for Friday

5 wines for Friday

I’m not sure about drinking naked but it might not be a bad idea….hahaha. This picture was in a wine store in Virginia when we went to visit some friends…I couldn’t help but post it for this week’s 5… wines!!!

In most people’s world, Friday is the end…. the end to a hard work week and time to let the relaxing begin. However, when you own a restaurant, Friday is the beginning. The beginning of the most demanding days… Friday and Saturday. In the service industry, you work when others play. We serve you when you’re done with your week and are ready to relax. It’s fun though. It’s like entertaining your friends, every weekend. Deciding on new dishes or desserts and picking out a great wine to match perfectly. It really is our “thing”. We truly look at our restaurant as a place for friends and families to gather and share in a dining experience. It’s not super fancy but we want to encourage a European style of eating where the meal takes place around conversation and laughter and all the while, nibbling slowly and savoring each bite….and sip.

Wine, glorious wine. Wine with food? Even better. It’s also good for you. It’s like a health food ūüėČ shhh…that’s what I’m going with.

“Drinking wine is just a part of life, like eating food.” – Francis Ford Coppola¬†

In Pennsylvania, unlike a lot of other states, we have to purchase our wine (and other spirits) through state sanctioned suppliers. This puts us as a slight disadvantage when it comes to selection but, none the less, there is still a lot to choose from. We obtained a permit to sell wine and created a  wine shop last year. My husband does a great job at keeping up with different wines and trying to stock special order wines so that we can offer customers a broader selection.

Pennsylvania wines are, for the most part, very sweet. I’m not a fan of sweet wines and neither is my husband. We’re California Cab, Chianti, Brunello people…. pretty dry and red. It’s not to say we can’t enjoy a nice white paired well with a dish. One of my favorites is Riesling with chicken.

Here are 5 wines I love that you can get in Pennsylvania:

  1. Sparkling – Mionetto Prosecco di Treviso Brut¬† ¬†$9.99 for the “2-pack”
    • This comes in a mini bottle 2 pack. Really nice when you want one glass or if it’s just you ( for those of you who drink one glass :-D)
  2. White –¬†Joh Jos Prum Riesling Kabinett Graacher Himmelreich 2015¬† $29.99 750ml
  3. Red California –¬†Beringer Founders’ Estate Cabernet Sauvignon¬† ¬† $13.99
  4. Red Italy –¬†Sangiovese, Brunello di Montalcino – Ridolfi $39.99
  5. Dessert –¬†Moscato – Cantine Aurora¬† $15.99

These are my 5 for friday… WINES!!! I’m sure there will be more 5 wine Fridays in the future!
